Substrate Wetting Agent for Paints and Coatings

Borchi® Gol 1570 is a modified polydimethylsiloxane substrate wetting agent for improved flow and leveling properties in coatings systems. This low molecular weight additive is 100 % active and VOC-free.

Benefits of Substrate Wetting Agents

In coatings, good surface wetting occurs when the surface energy of the coating is lower than the surface energy of the substrate. Wettability is determined by the proportion of adhesive to cohesive forces. Cohesion causes liquids to form drops, surface tension causes the drops to be nearly spherical, and adhesion keeps the drops in place. Surface tension is the elasticity of liquids, which makes them acquire the least surface area possible.

Poor wetting occurs when the liquid coating fails to cover the substrate with a continuous film. Solutions like Borchi® Gol 1570 are the best options for efficient substrate wetting. This additive provides surface tension reduction and enhances the spreadability of coatings.

Borchi® Gol 1570 reduces surface tension in a wide range of solvent- and water-based systems. This additive improves substrate wetting on even the most challenging substrate surfaces. It enhances flow and leveling properties and eliminates surface defects such as cratering, pinholes, and fish eyes.

Adding Borchi® Gol 1570 helps overcome the surface tension around these particles to form a smooth finish before the film solidifies. This eliminates defects like cratering (seen above)

Borchi® Gol 1570 improves slip properties when used in combination with Borchi® Gol LA 2 or Borchi® Gol LA 232 flow and leveling agents.

  • Dosage

The correct dosage of Borchi® Gol 1570 depends upon the type of system and desired effect. Suggested amounts range from 0.05 and 0.30 % based on the weight of the total formulation. The exact amount depends on the formulation and should be experimentally determined.

  • Storage

Protect from the effects of weathering and store at temperatures between 10 and 4°C. Once opened, containers should be resealed immediately after each removal of the product to avoid exposure to water and atmospheric moisture as much as possible.

  • Safety
