Non-Associative Acrylic Thickener / Rheology Modifier for Coatings and Adhesives

Borchi® Gel A LA is a non-associative acrylic thickener. This rheology modifier additive is a solution of anionic acrylic polymers in water that builds viscosity at lower shear rates. It is biocide-, APEO-, and tin-free.  
Benefits of Non-Associative Acrylic Thickeners
This anionic neutralized polyacrylate-based thickener improves the rheological properties of aqueous coating systems. Borchi® Gel A LA stabilizes water-based resins against coagulation. It provides improved flow and leveling properties for water-based coatings, mainly in high gloss emulsions. It can be used in adhesives and sealants. This grade is compatible with polyurethane and cellulosic thickeners to develop optimum rheological profiles.

Applications
Borchi® Gel A LA is ideal for use in a wide variety of coatings, as well as in adhesives and sealants.

Dosage

  • 0.1 – 2.0% on total formulation

Borchi® Gel A LA can be added directly to the batch as supplied. The exact dosage should be experimentally determined.

To enable the development of the rheology, it is necessary that the pH value of the formulation is >7.
Borchi® Gel A LA can also be pre-diluted with water without any problems.
Borchi® Gel A LA can be combined with polyurethane thickeners, cellulose thickeners, and/or zirconium complex thickeners to develop optimal rheology profiles.

Storage

Protect from the effects of weathering and store at temperatures between 5 and 30 °C. Once opened, containers should be resealed immediately after each removal of the product.

Upon storage, cloudiness could develop. In our work the cloudiness formation showed no influence on the thickening performance of the product, however we recommend that you evaluate the product performance in your own formulations to be sure.
