Bismuth Catalyst for Polyurethane Systems

Borchi® Kat 24 is a highly reactive bismuth octoate tin-free catalyst for one- and two-component solvent-based polyurethane systems.

Benefits of Bismuth Catalysts for Polyurethane

Borchi® Kat 24 is a replacement for other polyurethane catalysts, especially tertiary amines and DBTL. This solution accelerates the chemical reaction between the alcohol and isocyanate components of polyurethane systems. This allows optimum control of the drying properties. It ensures fast blocking stability and higher film hardness.

Applications

Ideal applications include industrial, automotive refinish, and coil solvent-based one- and two-component polyurethane coatings. This solution works well for polyurethane foams.

  • Dosage

Our experience has shown the recommended addition rate of Borchi® Kat 24 to be between 0.01 and 0.03 % product, calculated on total solid binder. The exact amount depends on the used binder and should be determined by means of preliminary trials.

Borchi® Kat 24 can be added either in the supply form or diluted in any suitable solvent (e.g. butyl acetate) to the polyol component of the coating system. Borchi® Kat 24 should not be diluted below 10 % of the supply form, since those solutions are only stable for a limited period of time.

  • Storage

Protect from the effects of weathering and store at temperatures below 50 °C. Once opened, containers should be resealed immediately after each removal of the product.

  • Safety

Please refer to our safety data sheet for information relating to product safety.
